Acting on behalf of the landowner and farmer, EW Button & Son, we provided landscape advice to inform a succesful planning application for polytunnels for soft fruit production, following a previous temporary planning permission that was due to expire. The majority of the farm and surrounding countryside is designated as an Area of Great Landscape Value.
The proposal was developed on the basis of a “whole farm‟ approach, so that the proposed polytunnels could be evaluated within the context of a longer term landscape mitigation /polytunnel management scheme for the farm. A landscape strategy was prepared identifying locations for polytunnels within an existing landscape framework of Cornish hedges and woodland shaws and new planted landscape features.
On the basis of the LVIA and landscape strategy, planning consent was given for for 20.9 hectares of polytunnels across a total farm area of 117 hectares.
