We were landscape sub-consultants to Giffords and WSP (GWSP) on this flagship scheme to widen the M25 and create a new interchange and spur road to Heathrow Airport T5. Our input included:
-
Production of detailed Environmental Masterplans, Existing Vegetation Design and planting plans
-
Preparation of a CEMP and HEMP
-
Preparation of and input to specifications for site clearance, topsoiling and earthworks, fencing, planting and seeding and landscape maintenance works,
-
On site contract administration during implementation and maintenance period.
Landscape works include typical outfield planting as well as the creation of a formal gateway to T5. Here, planting incorporates bold avenues of fastigiate Oak trees, sweeping bands of wildflower meadow and formalised grids of ornamental cherry trees in coppiced hazel to the main junction interchange. This part of the scheme alone includes nearly 600 semi-mature trees. Sustainable design underpins the scheme, with measures employed such as:
-
taking cuttings from rare Black Poplars for planting as part of the scheme,
-
the use of composted recycled green waste as mulch,
-
90% of the total soil used was manufactured from existing topsoil, subsoil and recycled organic matter.
