We carried out detailed hard and soft landscape design for this award winning mixed residential and commercial development in the Brighton New England Quarter, having been involved with the hybrid planning application for the site and wider masterplan for this new urban quarter.
This brownfield city centre site is heavily sloping and the design scheme therefore incorporates many areas of decked/podium level public realm and open space in order to achieve high quality spaces that accommodate effective level changes. Vibrant streetscapes, a public square, communal courtyards and both community and private roof terraces are brought together to create a dynamic urban environment for a multitude of users. The landscape treatment of these spaces seeks to enhance their spatial character and promote multi-use areas suitable for a variety of activities.
HBA worked with public artists Steve Geliot, Jon Mills and Fiona Atkinson to incorporate bespoke tree grilles, paving details and seating into the design scheme.
The development has been awarded the CABE Building For Life Award and has also received awards and commendations from RTPI, RICS and New Homes and Gardens Award
