Working as landscape sub-consultants to Arup-Balfour Beatty on this Design and Build contract, we prepared landscape and environmental design drawings and specifications and carried out Contract Administration and prepared the Handover Environmental Management Plan (HEMP) for adoption by Buckinghamshire County Council.
This new road scheme lies in part within the Chilterns AONB and a primary objective of the landscape scheme is to integrate the bypass into the wider landscape and maintain and enhance the biodiversity of the area. Landscape design measures include:
- Species diverse indigenous plant mixes to complement and enhance local biodiversity
- Areas of species rich grassland sown to replace and enhance that which was lost to the scheme
- Native black poplars grown from locally sourced cuttings included in plant mixes to increase the number of nationally rare black poplars in the area
- Planting of bulbs and coloured stemmed shrubs to provide visual impact at key locations such as lay-bys and gateway roundabouts.
